7 Habits Review Time: Seven Habits Speedway

My Younger kids (K-2) have all been introduced or reviewed all 7 Habits so it's time for me to be sure they know them and can apply them to real world situations.   In order to make that fun, I found this great race car game!  I have designed questions for each habit, and will divide the kids into groups (color groups for each car), and ask the questions.  When a group answers correctly they get to move their car.  What I love about this is, there's no dice to deal with, and no pieces to have to manipulate.  It does it all for you.

Habits in action or Inaction

I love using videos to re-enforce the habits!  The kids get a kick out of it too.  Here are just a few of the videos on my playlist that I have used.  I sometimes pick videos tbat are not good examples of a habit and they have to guess which habit the character should have used.  Seek first to Understand  Be Proactive Synergize

Winter Madness Survival Guide

I don't know about you, but this time of year is crazy!  I feel like I can't keep my classes on the same Guidance Lessons, and if you know me at all, you know that I have to be able to do this in order to stay sane.  It's important that all my classes get the same content.  Therefore, I use December as a time to reflect on what we've learned so far, review, and create culminating projects that go along with what we've learned. Game for Grades 2-5 Seven Habits of Happy Kids Game Set I use these with Grades 1-5.  Kindergarten kids aren't reading yet, so I do this as a whole group using the document camera.  You can purchase it at Amazon.com Culminating Project This is a time of year that I use my older kids to help me with my lesson planning.  (See, its all about utilizing your resources!  LOL)  Anyway, I have the kids develop scenarios and questions for games such as I made above.  I give each group a habit, and have ...

Spot the Habit

This is a fun way for kids to use real world scenarios and connect them to a habit.  I show all kinds of commercials, or video clips and the kids are to fill out the Spot the Habit organizer to use for our discussion.

7 Habits in Action: School Wide Expectations

This is a lesson I do with my 3-5th graders at the beginning of the school year.  This helps keep everyone on the same page with regard to school wide expectations, as well as helps me get a feel for what habits the students are still struggling to apply toward their daily lives.  In this activity, the students are put into groups of five. Each group is labeled with a location.  (classroom, hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, and playground).   I present them with the table below, and ask them to complete their group's box for each habit.  I give the groups about about 5 minutes, to discuss and write down their answers.  Then, I tell them to switch to the next group.  When the students have rotated through all of the groups, we come together as a class and discuss.  I usually use big butcher paper, to create this matrix and hang it somewhere in the classroom as a reminder.  I have placed a blank table for you to use if you'd like, a...

7 Habits Game

Here's a fun interactive way to review the 7 Habits.  It can be used with any game actually.  It's just simply a game board with the characters from 7 Oaks.  I like to create scenerios and have the kids guess the habit.  If the get it right, the get to move forward.  Just click on the gameboard , to access this. https://jeopardylabs.com/play/the-7-habits-of-happy-kids7

7 Habits Every Day: Assessing Student's Application

.  I am excited about getting to use these new slips with my students this week!  We use the 7 Habits so much in Guidance, even if I don't teach it directly, I want to make sure the students understand how they have applied them in our lesson that day.   The top one is for my students in grades 3-5, while the second one is for the K-2 students.  This will serve as a quick way for me to assess whether the students are understanding and connecting to the fact that the 7 Habits are life skills that are used naturally in our every day lives.  I'll keep you posted as to how well they are working

7 Habits Scavenger

I use this lesson to help me assess how well my kids can identify habits as they are being demonstrated (or not demonstrated).  I divide the students into groups and provide them a book of my choosing.  They are then asked to synergize to complete the assignment. They have to do the assignment and present their book to the class.  This a great teach to learn strategy! Sample books I have used:    Be Proactive   Synergize Begin with the End in Mind Sharpen the Saw
