W.R. McNeill Elementary Leadership Day

Leadership day is a special opportunity for our school to open our doors to the community so show off the great things that are happening. Through implementing the Leader in Me process we have a built a unique environment where the principles, practices, and habits of the 7 Habits of Highly Effecitve People are embedded into our culture. The Leader in Me process defines our school operations, permeates instructional practice and curriculum, and is the basis of a vibrant leadership development approach for both students and staff. Attend this leadership day to be immersed into our leadership culture with presentations from students, teachers and open-house-like visits to classrooms.

Growth Mindset: Extension Activity

Last week, we learned about having a Growth Mindset. This week, I am hoping to go a little further with this topic by using this "Star Wars' clip. I found this amazing website called Step-up 2 thrive . This site does a lot of work with Mindset and is helping me find resources to support what I am doing in the classroom. LESSON PLAN: REVISED TO MEET MY STUDENTS' NEEDS Tell students to do the following: (WORKSHEET PROVIDED ) 1. On the side labeled, On the side labeled, "Things that are hard", list things that you struggle with, or challenge you. In the column labeled, "Things I say to myself about doing these things," have students write phrases they may say to themselves when something becomes difficult. 7 Habits Bingo

This is a fun game we play in Guidance to review the 7 Habits. I made up scenarios to go along with each habit, read the scenario and the children have to guess which habit it is. They then go to their board and cover that square. It's a great opportunity to see who knows their habits and also discuss the scenarios as we go along.
