Nutrition: Balance Feels Best (Habit 7)

Nutrition is all about Balance! Starting in January, I begin my lessons on Nutrition, Drugs and Alcohol, Health, Hygiene and all the other fun stuff that goes along with it.  While these lessons are a little more on the Science/Health side of things, it's still so easy to streamline these topics within the 7 Habits.  This is where I emphasize Habit 7 quite a bit!  Habit 7 teaches all about balancing your body, mind and soul; not over doing things, and how too much of anything isn't a good thing.  During my Nutrition units, I am very intentional in demonstrating that while we study food labels, the MyPlate requirements, and diet and exercise, we need to make sure we find balance between what we are taught is right, and what we enjoy.   I am clear to illustrate that it's okay to have foods that loaded with sugar SOMETIMES, as long as you have balance !! Here are some activities I have found very helpful in teaching nutrition thus far. Sort the Foods Gam...

7 Habits Game

Here's a fun interactive way to review the 7 Habits.  It can be used with any game actually.  It's just simply a game board with the characters from 7 Oaks.  I like to create scenerios and have the kids guess the habit.  If the get it right, the get to move forward.  Just click on the gameboard , to access this. https://jeopardylabs.com/play/the-7-habits-of-happy-kids7

7 Habits Every Day: Assessing Student's Application

.  I am excited about getting to use these new slips with my students this week!  We use the 7 Habits so much in Guidance, even if I don't teach it directly, I want to make sure the students understand how they have applied them in our lesson that day.   The top one is for my students in grades 3-5, while the second one is for the K-2 students.  This will serve as a quick way for me to assess whether the students are understanding and connecting to the fact that the 7 Habits are life skills that are used naturally in our every day lives.  I'll keep you posted as to how well they are working

Habit 5: Lesson Plan

Here is a sample Lesson of How I integrate the PLVS I can statements into a lesson that aligns with the 7 Habits in some way.

Guidance Timeline and Curriculum Connections

Click on the picture to get the complete document.  I have created this as a means of sharing with you how easily the 7 Habits can embed into the PL/VS Program Review.  I have taken the I can statements ans well as each domain and aligned in with the habits that I feel best relates to that standard.  Hopefully you will find this helpful.
